Glyceryl Stearate SE, an oily ingredient that possesses the magical ability to blend with water all by itself, is known for its self-emulsifying properties—hence the "SE" in its name, which stands for self-emulsifying. Distinguished from the "normal" Glyceryl Stearate, the SE grade includes a small amount of water-loving soap molecules, like sodium stearate, enhancing its affinity for water and strengthening its emulsifying abilities. Beyond these features, it serves as a commendable emollient, imparting a smooth and soft appearance to the skin.

Glyceryl Stearate SE exhibits several beneficial effects in cosmetics, such as:

Primarily plant-based, Glyceryl Stearate SE can be derived from sources such as olive oil or coconut oil, or produced synthetically. It’s formulated with potassium stearate, making it pH-sensitive and requiring a pH range of approximately 7 to 8 for optimal stability.

Recommended for use at a concentration of 4–8%, Glyceryl Stearate SE is melted in the oil phase of formulations at around 70°C, with the water phase added while stirring. It's deemed environmentally friendly and suitable for creating pH-neutral formulations (pH between 5 and 6) when combined with other emulsifiers.
