Escin
Escin, also known as Aescin, is a natural saponin mixture extracted from the horse chestnut tree (Aesculus hippocastanum), known for its significant anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and vasoprotective effects. As the primary active component of the horse chestnut, Escin plays a crucial role in promoting blood circulation and reducing edema. The mixture's main active compound, β-Escin, along with other components such as α-Escin, protoescigenin, barringtogenol, cryptoescin, and benzopyrones, contribute to its wide range of pharmacological activities. Studies have shown that Escin, especially pure β-Escin, is a safe and effective short-term treatment for chronic venous insufficiency, although more high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm its overall effectiveness. Moreover, horse chestnut extract has been proven to have similar efficacy and tolerability to the use of compression stockings in clinical applications.

Source
Primarily extracted from the seeds of the horse chestnut tree.
The extraction process involves grinding the seeds into powder and then extracting the active ingredients with solvents like water or alcohol.
After purification, the extract is ensured to contain a high concentration of Escin, especially β-Escin, to exert its pharmacological effects.
