Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline, an oil-soluble derivative of hydroxyproline, is the primary amino acid found in the collagen of the skin. Making it oil-soluble enhances its ability to penetrate the skin and lips effectively, signaling the uppermost layers to repair its supportive structures, which leads to a reduction in visible lines and wrinkles. Considered a signal peptide, it improves skin affinity when combined with oils or glycols. Besides supporting skin collagen, it also inhibits collagen-degrading enzymes known as matrix metalloproteinases, preventing collagen weakening and consequent sagging and thinning of lips.
