香茅精油 (亞香茅/香茅草)
Citronella grass Essential Oil / Cymbopogon nardus
Citronella grass, scientifically named Cymbopogon nardus, belongs to the grass family Poaceae. This hardy herbaceous plant thrives mainly in Sri Lanka and Java but is also found in Myanmar, Madagascar, Guatemala, South Africa, and Taiwan. Capable of reaching up to 90cm in height, its long, narrow leaves will flower if allowed to grow unchecked. Traditionally, distillation favors dried over fresh Citronella grass due to the former's less fuel-intensive process and more agreeable oil scent. Beyond its commonality in Southeast Asia and Taiwan as a herb, Citronella grass is a principal component in numerous prestigious perfumes and soaps, with its citronellol content often explored for insect-repellent properties. It exudes a warm, intense aroma and was a significant ingredient in traditional herbal baths during the Dragon Boat Festival.
